Hope, Votes & Bullets is a visual response to a moment of political tension and determination. It tells a very personal story of change, despair, and protest, created from voices inside and outside Iran during and after the contested 2009 presidential election in the country.

On June 12, 2009, Iranian authorities declared Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reelected by a landslide. Before doing so, they shut down mobile networks and restricted internet access. While few expected a fair count, many were shocked by the scale of the result. That night, people took to rooftops to shout their grief. Days later, millions silently filled the streets of Tehran in protest.

This work does not follow a linear timeline. It moves through slogans, fragments, images, and emotion. From grief to satire, from silence to resistance. A specific time captured through design and text.

This was produced in collaboration with Fred Petrossian and Tori Egherman.
